Our customers expect a certain standard of quality from the sites we build, but those aren’t the only standards we have to deal with.

Here at Evergreen, we spend a lot of time writing code, and trying to improve compatibility across multiple browsers. This task has become much easier over the years, as the main browsers have moved towards following web-standards entirely. However with every new version of a browser comes a new interpretation of the web-standards, leaving us with the task of checking our websites with the new browsers, as per the standards expected of us, from our customers.

These standards don’t stop there. Many of our websites send out formatted emails, and instead of a browser converting all the lovely code (HTML) we develop, it’s an email client that has to do the display correctly.  Whilst web browsers have been steadily moving towards complete standards compliance, it would seem email clients are going backwards, and this isn’t because of the increase in the amount online clients. No, instead, whilst some clients take away some of the hard work we have put in by simply removing bits of code making up the emails, others insert bits of code.

If baking a cake was as difficult as building a fancy email, all your best efforts to make a carrot cake would sometimes produce a chocolate cake, sometimes an omelet, and sometimes a bowl of dog food.

Have we let that stop us? No! We at Evergreen like a good challenge, and low and behold, we can make those beautifully formatted emails compatible in just about all clients, by drawing on our extensive expertise.

Sterling Plus WebsiteSterling Plus recently took the leap and began trading online! They took advantage of one of Evergreen’s tried and tested E-commerce management systems, which was custom built around Sterling’s needs.

Evergreen worked closely with the design team at BML- Creative to produce this beautiful yet functional website, providing Sterling with an invaluable tool for their business.

We are very pleased to announce that we will be working on a new project with one of our existing customers, Jacobs SULA based in Wotton-under-Edge.

The project is a large multi-user online database project, incorporating our flexible and proven content management system.

The web application will provide facilities to create and manage a Test and Evaluation Capability Catalogue for use by the Ministry of Defence and its suppliers so that resources can be co-ordinated, consolidated and ultimately reduce the cost of test and evaluation activities across the European Defence Agency.

Implementation is planned for late January 2012.

We are extremely pleased to be continuing our existing relationship with another local business.

Just four months after making significant changes to their website, MAW are receiving much greater web activity that has lead to increased enquiries and sales. “We believe that we have had an increase of over 45% more visits to our new site since it went live and certainly more people are completing and submitting the online enquiry form, which has meant a 50% increase in new business enquiries via our website.”

Overall, Lynne is delighted with every aspect of the new MAW website. Commenting on her experience of Evergreen: “I only have praise for what Evergreen has done for our business. We have had fantastic feedback on our site and the results are already speaking for themselves. If anyone is considering a new website provider, then make sure Evergreen are at the top of your list, they are certainly not your average web company!”

Ventnor Botanic Garden

Ventnor Botanic Garden based in the Isle of Wight came to Evergreen back in April, with an existing website. The site was migrated to Evergreen’s secure servers for work to begin on updating and modernising the design as well adding a whole host of exciting new features. The specification called for some great additions to the site such as an online gift shop, payment gateway and a blog as well as retro-fitting Evergreen’s custom built content management system.

From a design perspective Ventnor were keen to move to a cleaner design, reflecting the blues and whites in their new logotype. Evergreen took care of the design and development of the entire project from beginning to end.

Google+Google Plus?  You may have seen the word Google with a plus sign tagged on the end like this: Google+

It’s Google’s own social networking service, competing with Facebook and Twitter.  We’ve previously talked about creating Facebook pages for your business, and you probably already know how useful Twitter can be for certain types of business, so Google’s next natural step is to allow businesses to create Google+ Pages.

September saw a busy few months for Evergreen, with great new projects coming in from all directions. One of my personal favourites had to be the new recipe sharing system for The Cooks Kitchen. The requirement was for Evergreen to create a user-friendly interface, which would allow visitors to the site to post links to their favourite recipes from the web.
